Our Story

Yes, you've been missing this. So did we.

There's a kind of meal that quietly disappeared. Trays sliding down a salad line. A bowl of something hot waiting at the end. Warm bread you didn't have to wait for. Kids learning what a balanced plate looked like by building their own.

Soup 'n Fresh is founder Bryan Lopez's answer. He grew up in Arcadia, but the idea came from his dad as they sat across the street from a closed restaurant the family had enjoyed for years, looking at an empty parking lot. Why not bring it back?

So he did — and made it a little better. Everything's prepped on-site. No central commissary. No frozen pucks. Six to eight soups a day, baked goods coming out warm in the back, a salad bar that gets restocked while you're still in line for your second bowl. We're family-owned, independent, and proudly not a corporation.

The Salad Bar

15+ toppings, four house dressings, a rotating roster of prepared salads. Crisp romaine and spring mix at the start, candied pecans and roasted sunflower seeds at the end.

Bowls of fresh-made soup

Soup Bar

Six to eight soups, daily. Classic Chicken Noodle and Clam Chowder are always on. Tomato Basil, Cream of Mushroom, Pozole, and Korean Beef Bone — they rotate. The crackers are unlimited.

Pasta with marinara sauce

Pasta Station

Rotating pasta and sauces — marinara, alfredo, pesto, the occasional pink sauce when we're feeling it. Garlic bread served warm. Kids love this one. Adults pretend not to.

Fresh-baked muffins from the bakery

How it works (and what to expect).

First time? Two-hour wait on a Saturday at 6pm? Coming with a stroller? Here's the rundown.

How does the buffet work?

Walk in, grab a tray, head to the salad line first — that's the easiest way to start. Pay at the register at the end of the line, then everything else (soup, pasta, bakery, desserts, drinks) is unlimited for as long as you're at the table. There's a two-hour dine-in time limit on weekends to keep the line moving.

What are your wait times like?

Weekdays are easy — usually under 20 minutes, often a walk-in. Weekends are a different story: expect 1 to 2 hours between 11:30am and 7:30pm. Best times to visit on weekends are right at open (10:30am) or after 8pm.

Is there a senior or kids' discount?

Yes. Seniors 55+ get $2 off the adult price any time. Kids ages 4–8 are $9.99, ages 9–12 are $11.99, and kids under 3 eat free with a paying adult.

Do you offer takeout?

Yes — we offer soups and salads to-go by the container or pound. The bakery is also available for takeout. Stop by the register and a team member will walk you through pricing.

Can you handle large groups or birthdays?

Of course. Groups of 10 or more on weekdays — call ahead and we'll do our best to seat you together. For larger parties or events, give the location a call and we'll work something out.

Are you the buffet that used to be in this space?

No. Soup 'n Fresh is independent and family-owned. We took over two locations that previously housed a much-loved soup-and-salad buffet, but we're our own restaurant — different recipes, different team, same love for a fresh, made-from-scratch experience.
